ABOUT ME
I am Sarah Rath and have been an artist and designer for most of my life. As a problem solver from a young age, I continue to be driven by my endless curiosity. I find inspiration in using design as a tool to answer questions and address common problems.
Interaction designers carry the responsibility to make elegant and functional designs. Functional design is created alongside real people, for the daily use of real people; it should feel effortless for users from all walks of life. This kind of design requires a fundamental partnership between user and content, and this philosophy is the foundation for all of my work.
Learning from Creative Leaders
Design conferences help remind me how cutting-edge this field is. I am able to connect with others who share my passion, and learn from those who helped pioneer this industry in its current form.
At RGD Design Thinkers 2023 I met Stefan Sagmeister. He has been one of my graphic design role models since I first discovered this field. The small-table talk with Stefan and other publishers, and keynote speakers such as Eleni Beveratou and Catalina Estrada reinforced my strong desire to make positive change. With my adaptable and diverse skillset, I bring a new perspective to any creative team.
I have an incredible collection of design and art education institutions in the United States of America and Canada.
Prior to my post-secondary education, I attended two separate pre-college art programs throughout high school. In 2018, I learned command of graphic design, figure drawing, and painting at Monserrat College of Art. At the Maine College of Art and Design in 2019, I was introduced to printmaking and discovered my love of typography.
After high school, I enrolled in Sheridan College’s Art Fundamentals program, where I was able to demonstrate my broad skillset to my professors, mentors, and peers. At the end-of-year showcase, I received nominations for all five awards including 2D design, 3D design, drawing, drawing systems, and painting. I was awarded 1st place for drawing systems and 2nd place for 2D design.
Along with these awards, two of my 2D design pieces were selected for Sheridan College’s Remote: Art from the Pandemic exhibition. The selected pieces included a scientific schematic of a Double-crested cormorant, and an abstract alphabet created using plated food.
Always Evolving
Building My Foundations
I strive to constantly broaden my design education and experiences to develop nuanced perspectives for use in current and future projects. My history in design has fundamentally shaped how I continue to contribute to the ever-changing landscape of the design industry.
